What is it?
This procedure seals a small gap at the base of the skull, where fluid from around the brain is leaking into the nose. It's done fully through the nostrils.
What happens during treatment?
We first locate the leak. Then we seal it using a small piece of your own tissue. This rebuilds the barrier between your nose and the space around your brain.
Recovery
You'll usually stay in the hospital for a short time so we can watch how you're healing. Avoiding straining or heavy lifting is important at first, to protect the repair.
Expected outcomes
This repair works well for most people. Finding and treating the reason the leak happened, like high pressure around the brain, also helps prevent it from coming back.
